Egyptian Student Jumps off Cairo Tower Committing Suicide

A 20 year old Egyptian student committed suicide on Saturday after jumping off Cairo Tower.

Qasr al-Nile police station received a report, that a young Egyptian man, booked a ticket to the Tower and jumped off the building's fence.

Initial investigations showed that the young man, who was studying at Helwan university , suffered from some psychological issues.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The student, who was named Nader, jumped from the height of 187 m (614 ft) and fell within the tower's entrance building.

Security forces moved and detained the body of the deceased, after investigating the scene. The prosecution has ordered the emergency to move the body to the morgue after hearing the witnesses' statements.

Egypt has always been listed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to have the lowest suicide rate, at less than five suicides per 100,000 people.

Social media users have been circulating the video of the incident, showing one of his friends trying to save him but, the victim insisted on jumping.

Suicide cases in Egypt is often registered as accidental deaths by families of the deceased, as it is considered a sinful act.

The tower is one of Cairo's most famous landmarks. It was designed by the Egyptian architect Naoum Shebib and built between 1954-1961 on the Gezira Island.
