Badr Abdel Atty, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, received a phone call on the evening of December 14 from Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The conversation focused on the strong strategic relations between Egypt and Somalia, with a shared commitment to enhancing bilateral ties across political, economic, and trade sectors to meet the aspirations of both nations. The ministers discussed building on the recent momentum in Egypt-Somalia relations and following up on outcomes from the trilateral summit held in Asmara on October 10, 2024, involving the leaders of Egypt, Somalia, and Eritrea.
Minister Fiqi briefed Abdel Aty on the outcomes of the recent Ankara trilateral summit between Somalia, Turkey, and Ethiopia. He reaffirmed Somalia's commitment to upholding its sovereignty and territorial integrity—a stance strongly supported by Abdel Aty, who reiterated Egypt's unwavering backing for Somalia's federal government in combating terrorism and fostering security and stability.
The two ministers agreed to continue their joint coordination and prepare for the upcoming trilateral ministerial meeting between the foreign ministers of Egypt, Somalia, and Eritrea. This meeting aims to advance regional consultation and cooperation, following directives from the political leadership of the three countries on matters of shared regional interest.
