This morning, an Egyptian high-level security delegation arrived at Tripoli's Mitiga airport to meet with a number of officials of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA).

The Egyptian delegation includes Deputy Ministers of Defense, Foreign Affairs and the deputy head of General Intelligence Service (GIS).

The visit is the first of its kind by the Egyptian officials to the capital, Tripoli, since 2014. It comes a few weeks after the visit of the GNA's Interior Minister, Fathi Bashagha, to Cairo.

On Friday, the Turkish Defence Minister, accompanied by Turkey’s Chief of General Staff Yasar Guler, and other military commanders made a surprise trip to Tripoli. The visit came two days after the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, urged his fighters to drive out Turkish forces from the oil-rich country.

On Tuesday, a Libyan delegation arrived in Cairo and held talks with a number of Egyptian officials on the Libyan crisis, and ways to resolve it politically. The delegation included 75 representatives of Libya’s southern cities.

During the three-day visit, the Egyptian National Committee Concerned with the Libyan Crisis listened to the demands of the delegation, in light of Egypt’s key role in the Libyan security.
