Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and key regional developments.
According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, the two leaders reviewed collaborative economic projects, including the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. Both presidents expressed their commitment to advancing these strategic initiatives.
The call also addressed the situation in Gaza, where President Sisi outlined Egypt’s efforts since October 2023, in cooperation with Qatar and the United States, to broker a ceasefire. Sisi emphasised Egypt’s ongoing role in ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid and stressed the importance of international efforts to implement the ceasefire agreement. He reiterated that a two-state solution based on international resolutions is the only pathway to achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
President Putin praised Egypt’s pivotal role in mediating the ceasefire and expressed Russia’s support for Egypt’s efforts to stabilise the Middle East. He also reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to deepening economic ties with Egypt.
The leaders discussed developments in Syria, with Sisi underscoring the importance of preserving Syria’s territorial integrity and stability. Additional topics included the situations in Lebanon, Sudan, Libya, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Both leaders agreed on the need for continued coordination to address these pressing issues and promote regional and global stability.
