Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov agreed on Tuesday on the importance of reducing escalating tensions in the region and pursuing diplomatic solutions to the ongoing standoff between Washington and Tehran.

This came in a phone call as part of ongoing coordination and consultations between Egypt and Russia on bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual concern, stated the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

According to the ministry’s spokesperson, the two ministers praised the close ties between Cairo and Moscow and the steady development of cooperation across various fields, particularly in the economic and trade sectors.

The discussions also addressed fast-moving regional developments. Abdelatty stressed the importance of de-escalation and containing rising tensions, highlighting Egypt’s ongoing efforts to help create conducive conditions for the continuation of negotiations between the United States and Iran.

He underscored the need to reach a consensual and peaceful settlement that takes into account the interests of the parties concerned and addresses issues related to the Iranian nuclear file, in a way that spares the region further escalation and instability.

Both sides emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomatic engagement as key tools for preserving regional security and stability.
