President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Palestinian Counterpart Mahmoud Abbas held a bilateral summit on Monday in Cairo and discussed various developments on the Palestinian arena and a number of issues of common concern.
Abbas praised the positions of Egypt and its role in “supporting the rights of our people to freedom and independence, and the importance of continuing to strive towards achieving a just and comprehensive peace.”
On his part, Sisi affirmed that Egypt will continue to stand by the Palestinian people and their just cause, until they obtain their legitimate rights and establish their independent state, on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The meeting was attended by a member of the Fatah Central Committee, the head of the General Authority for Civil Affairs, Minister Hussein El-Sheikh, the head of the General Intelligence Service, Major General Maged Farag and Palestinian Ambassador in Cairo Diab Al Louh.
From the Egyptian side; Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Director of Egyptian Intelligence Major General Abbas Kamel, and the official spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency, Bassam Rady attended the summit.
Abbas arrived, Sunday evening, in Egypt on an official visit, coming from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
He had received, at his residence in the Egyptian capital Cairo, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, and briefed them on the latest developments on the Palestinian issue, in addition to the efforts made politically and diplomatically to mobilize international support for the Palestinian position.
