The Egyptian Navy ranks among the seven most powerful naval forces worldwide, and its war fleet ranks second among the most powerful war fleets in the Middle East. It owns more than 300 naval units that include helicopter carriers.
The Egyptian army announced that its war fleet had conducted three naval exercises in the Mediterranean and the Red Sea Operations Theater. Naval units from three countries, the United States of America, Greece and Spain, participated in the exercises, in addition to the Egyptian naval units.
What are the capabilities of the Egyptian fleet?
The Egyptian fleet owns 316 naval units, making it number 7 in the world. The Egyptian military fleet includes two helicopter carriers, 9 frigates, 7 corvettes, 8 submarines, 50 patrol ships, and 23 minesweepers.
The US fleet
The US warship "USS O'Kane" participated in a naval exercise in the scope of the Southern Fleet's theater of operations in the Red Sea with the Egyptian frigate "Taba".
The US Navy ranks No. 4 among the largest war fleets in the world with 490 naval units comprising 11 aircraft carriers, 10 helicopter carriers, 92 destroyers, 21 corvettes, 68 submarines, 13 patrol ships, in addition to 8 naval minesweepers.
The Greek fleet
The Greek frigate "HS Canaris" participated in a naval exercise in the Northern Fleet in the Mediterranean with the Egyptian frigate "Alexandria".
The Greek fleet ranks 23rd in the world and owns 116 naval units, including 13 frigates, 11 submarines, 35 patrol ships and 3 minesweepers.
Spanish fleet
The Spanish frigate "ESBS Victoria" participated in a fleeting naval exercise with the Egyptian frigate "Al-Zafer".
The Spanish Navy fleet ranks 31st among the most powerful war fleets in the world, and owns 77 naval units, including one aircraft carrier, 11 frigates, two submarines, 23 patrol ships and 6 minesweepers.
As the Egyptian Naval Forces conducts continual joint exercises with the world navies, which aim to enhance the combat capabilities of the naval units and their crews in support of maritime security and stability in the region, the Egyptian Naval Forces carried out a PASSEX with the Greek Naval Forces with the participation of the Egyptian frigate (Alexandria) and the Greek frigate (HS Kanaris) within the AOR of the Northern Fleet in the Mediterranean.
Within the AOR of the Southern Fleet’s in the Red Sea, The naval forces also carried out, another PASSEX with the US Navy with the participation of the Egyptian frigate (Taba) and the American ship (USS Okane), as well as the Egyptian frigate (Al-Zafer) implemented a PASSEX with the Spanish navy frigate (ESPS Victoria).
The exercises included the implementing a set of various naval combat activities aimed to enhance maritime security procedures in the Mediterranean and Red Sea theaters of operations, in order to assess surface and air threats, as well as training on homogeneous work within a joint force charged with the tasks of maintaining maritime security in order to confront special threats that hinder international freedom of navigation and the flow of global trade.
These exercises come within the framework of the Armed Forces plan for joint exercises and an affirmation of the strategic partnership between the Egyptian Armed Forces and friendly and brotherly countries, which highlights the capabilities of the Egyptian Navy in working and coordinating with global navies.
