Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Expatriates’ Affairs, received a phone call today from Ms. Baiba Braže, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.

The discussion focused on the course of bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as regional issues of mutual concern.

The two ministers exchanged views on the rapidly evolving situation in Gaza.

Latvian FM briefed her Egyptian counterpart on the outcomes of the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers currently being held in Denmark.

For his part, Abdelatty presented a comprehensive overview of Egypt’s tireless efforts to end the suffering in Gaza and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, stressing the severe deterioration in humanitarian conditions and the famine threatening more than two million Palestinians.

Moreover, Abdelatty underlined the urgent need for the international community, particularly the European Union, to assume its responsibilities in stopping Israel’s grave violations against civilians.

He also stressed the importance of pressuring Israel to halt the expansion of its military operations and immediately end the use of starvation as a weapon, pointing to mechanisms available within the EU that could be activated.

Furthermore, Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of adopting concrete and effective European steps to push Israel towards engaging positively with the proposed ceasefire initiative.

The phone call also covered bilateral relations, with both ministers expressing their shared aspiration to strengthen economic, trade, and investment ties, as well as cooperation in information technology and digitalization.

They highlighted the significance of the Egyptian–Latvian partnership and the promising opportunities it holds in priority areas for both sides.

The ministers further reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination and joint efforts in maintaining international peace and security, while enhancing the Egyptian–European partnership to confront common challenges.
