Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call on Sunday, February 8, with his Greek counterpart Giorgos Gerapetritis, as part of ongoing coordination aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries and reviewing key regional developments.

According to Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the two ministers praised the deep-rooted historical ties between Egypt and Greece and the significant momentum in bilateral relations, particularly following the joint announcement in May 2025 upgrading relations to the level of a strategic partnership. Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s interest in further enhancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation, while expanding bilateral collaboration into new sectors. He also welcomed Greece’s supportive positions toward Egypt within European Union institutions.

The call addressed developments in the Gaza Strip, where Abdelatty stressed the importance of implementing the second phase of the peace plan proposed by Donald Trump. He reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the Peace Council and reiterated Cairo’s full backing of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza as a transitional framework to manage daily affairs in the territory, paving the way for the return of the Palestinian Authority to assume its full responsibilities.

Egypt’s foreign minister also underlined the need for the rapid deployment of an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire, ensure the continued flow of humanitarian and relief aid into Gaza, and lay the groundwork for early recovery and reconstruction.

Abdelatty briefed his Greek counterpart on the latest developments in Sudan, highlighting Egypt’s intensive efforts within the quadrilateral mechanism to reach a swift humanitarian truce leading to a comprehensive ceasefire and an inclusive, Sudanese-owned political process. He emphasized the priority of establishing safe humanitarian corridors and guaranteeing unimpeded access for aid to the Sudanese people.

Both ministers agreed on the importance of de-escalation across the region. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to reduce regional tensions and stressed the need to intensify regional and international diplomatic initiatives. He added that Egypt will continue its active engagement to reach a consensual settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue that takes into account the concerns of all parties, in support of regional and international security and stability.
