Egyptian Government Gears Up for Inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum

Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly chaired a high-level meeting to follow up on the latest updates of the development projects surrounding the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) and to discuss the ongoing preparations for its grand opening. The meeting was attended by prominent senior officials and other representatives from various ministries and related authorities. 

Madbouly began the meeting by stressing the importance of continuously following up on the latest developments at the GEM and the surrounding areas in preparation for its imminent inauguration. He emphasized President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to ensure the readiness of this monumental museum which houses numerous archaeological treasures that narrate the rich history and heritage of Egypt.

Dr. Madbouly underscored the importance of presenting a complete overview of the various development works in anticipation of the grand opening of this world-class museum. The objective is to reflect the stature and cultural heritage of Egypt. He announced that the official opening date of the GEM would be determined soon. 

The meeting also discussed the various procedures and steps needed for this historic event, including preparing invitations for high-level officials and showcasing the scenarios for the inauguration ceremony. 

The Prime Minister confirmed that the meeting aimed to prepare a final proposal to be submitted to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi regarding the proposed opening date and the inauguration ceremony scenarios.

The Cabinet Spokesman, Mr. Mohamed Al-Hamsani, stated that the meeting checks the ongoing works at the museum in preparation for the opening This includes the completion of works in the King Tutankhamun halls, the transportation of certain artifacts, and the remaining finishing works in the Sun Boats Museum building. 

He added that the meeting also discussed the progress of development projects in the surrounding area of the GEM, such as the implementation of green spaces, aesthetic designs, square developments, lighting and irrigation networks, and the visual improvement of the Ring Road in Cairo and Giza.

Al-Hamsani highlighted that numerous proposals were put forward concerning the arrangements for the Grand Egyptian Museum’s grand opening. 

These proposals include orchestrating a vast promotional campaign to herald the event ensuring the surrounding areas and hotels are fully prepared to accommodate prestigious guests, such as kings and heads of state, and meticulously identifying potential invitees for the monumental inauguration ceremony.
