Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, held a phone conversation with his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, to discuss the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza Strip.

The phone talks came as part of ongoing consultations on regional developments.

Abdelatty firmly rejected the decision of Israeli Ministerial Council to expand military operations in Gaza and entrench Israeli occupation of the Strip, stressing that such a move poses grave risks and will lead to further deterioration and instability in Gaza.

He underlined the need for a clear stance against this decision, urging the European Union (EU) to act swiftly to halt the dangerous Israeli escalation.

Moreover, Abdelatty emphasized that the Israeli decision aims to cement the illegal occupation of Palestinian territories, reiterating Egypt’s total rejection of the policy of starvation and systematic killing of the Palestinian people.

He described repeated Israeli violations as a blatant breach of international law and international humanitarian law.

In this context, FM welcomed German government’s announcement to suspend arms and military equipment exports to Israel that could be used in military operations inside Gaza Strip.

He also briefed his German counterpart on Egypt’s continuous efforts to ensure the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, stressing the need for Israel to stop placing obstacles in the way of aid and relief deliveries.

Abdelatty further discussed Egypt’s ongoing preparations to host the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction in Gaza once a ceasefire agreement is reached.

For his part, German FM expressed full appreciation for Egypt’s intensive efforts to secure a ceasefire and facilitate humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza.

He commended Egypt’s role in hosting the recovery and reconstruction conference and confirmed Germany’s eagerness to participate at a high level as a co-sponsor, given its strong interest in early recovery and reconstruction.

He also agreed on the grave dangers posed by expanding Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip.
