Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has praised the outcomes of the recent trilateral meeting of Libya’s neighboring countries, emphasizing the importance of maintaining regional coordination to support stability and advance a political solution in Libya.
Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf, where the two officials reviewed regional developments and discussed ongoing efforts aimed at supporting Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and institutional stability. The discussions also covered bilateral relations between Egypt and Algeria and ways to strengthen cooperation across a range of political and economic sectors.
The Egyptian foreign minister highlighted the significance of the trilateral mechanism involving Libya’s neighboring states, describing it as an important platform for consultation and coordination on issues affecting Libya and regional security. He specifically commended the results of the most recent meeting, which was hosted in Cairo in May, and stressed the need to continue this framework in support of peace and stability.
Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to preserving Libya’s unity and strengthening its national institutions, emphasizing that stability in Libya remains a key pillar of security across North Africa and the wider region. They agreed that continued regional cooperation can play a constructive role in supporting efforts to overcome political divisions and promote long-term stability.
Regarding the Libyan political process, Egypt and Algeria reiterated their support for a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned solution to the crisis. The two sides emphasized that sustainable progress can only be achieved through dialogue among Libyans themselves, without external interference, while supporting initiatives aimed at unifying state institutions and ending political fragmentation.
The ministers also stressed the importance of creating the necessary conditions for holding national elections, viewing them as a crucial step toward restoring political legitimacy and advancing the country’s transition process. They underlined the need to support efforts that encourage consensus among Libyan stakeholders and strengthen the foundations for lasting peace.
