On November 25th, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, met with Mr. Andrii Sybiha, Ukrainian Foreign Minister, on the sidelines of the G7 meetings held in Fiume, Italy.
Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that Minister Abdelatty praised the cooperation between the two countries and expressed eagerness to further these ties through upcoming rounds of political consultations and the joint Egyptian-Ukrainian Commission for economic, scientific, and technical cooperation. The ministers also discussed the global food security situation, with a focus on restoring the flow of agricultural exports, particularly grain, from Ukraine to various global destinations.
Minister Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's role as Ukraine's leading trade partner in Africa and the Middle East. He expressed a strong desire to enhance bilateral cooperation in fields such as gas, construction, energy, telecommunications, information technology, and industrial localization. Furthermore, he advocated for tripartite cooperation involving Egypt, Ukraine, and African countries, utilizing Egypt's position as a gateway for exports and investments into African markets.
Additionally, Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's stance on the Ukrainian crisis, emphasizing respect for international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter. He underscored the importance of resolving the crisis through negotiation, reflecting both parties' interests, and highlighted Egypt's involvement in related initiatives, including the African Leaders Initiative, the Arab Contact Group on the crisis, and participation in the China-Brazil initiative meeting during the UN General Assembly.
