Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stressed the necessity of withdrawing all foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries from Libya as a key step toward restoring stability and security in the country.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting with Mohamed Ali Nafti, Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, held on Saturday on the sidelines of the extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah.

The Egyptian foreign minister emphasized the importance of continuing close coordination between Egypt and Tunisia to strengthen bilateral relations across political, economic, and developmental fields, drawing on the historic bonds between the two nations. He praised the outcomes of the 18th session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Joint Higher Committee, held in Cairo in September 2025, highlighting the need to maintain its regular convening to advance economic, trade, and investment cooperation in line with the aspirations of both peoples.

The meeting also addressed several regional issues, with a particular focus on the situation in Libya. Abdelatty underscored the importance of collective regional and international efforts to reach a comprehensive, Libyan-owned political settlement that leads to the holding of simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections at the earliest possible date.

He reaffirmed Egypt’s firm support for Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, stressing that the departure of all foreign forces and mercenaries is essential to achieving lasting stability, not only in Libya but across the wider region.
