Israel has not fully respected the Gaza ceasefire and is taking steps that risk further escalation in the West Bank, Egyptian diplomat Ambassador Youssef Zada said.
According to Extra News, Zada, a member of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, described ongoing daily Israeli strikes in Gaza that continue to cause Palestinian casualties. He also highlighted Israeli actions in the West Bank, including settlement expansion and population transfers, which he said aim to alter the region’s demographic balance.
“Egypt, in coordination with Qatar and the United States, continues to push for full implementation of the ceasefire agreement,” Zada said. “The second phase is still being delayed by Israel, even after the return of Israeli bodies, raising serious doubts about its commitment.”
He stressed that Cairo’s focus is not only on Gaza’s reconstruction but on stabilizing the ceasefire and ensuring Israel abides by all agreed terms. Zada warned that Israel’s recent declaration of certain West Bank areas as “state land” represents a dangerous escalation that threatens regional stability.
The diplomat added that Israel’s moves coincide with the start of international peace council meetings and appear aimed at exerting political pressure and preempting global initiatives. “Dozens of countries have condemned these policies at the UN General Assembly, reflecting widespread international opposition to Israeli actions in the occupied territories,” he said.
