MARSA ALAM, Apr.1 (SEE) – On the sidelines of the Open Darts, currently taking place at the Red Sea and officially sponsored by EG-Gate (affiliated to Tahia Masr Fund), and parallel to the Ministry of Environment’s celebrations, the Egyptian Darts Federation celebrated the Earth Hour on Saturday.

At one of the Red Sea’s beaches, lights were replaced by candles and attendees were carrying signs on which “Earth Hour Egypt” was written in Arabic, German, English, and Italian.

The Earth Hour is an initiative that started in Sydney, Australia, in 2007, with the participation of two million persons. Over the past years, participants reached 3.5 billion worldwide.

The UAE was the first Arab country to join the initiative. It was followed by Egypt in 2009.

Worth noting is that the initiative stresses on the community participation’s role in facing environmental issues. It aims to rationalize the energy resources’ consumption to protect the environment against the climate change phenomenon.
