On Saturday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to discuss ways of strengthening economic cooperation and addressing key regional conflicts.

The discussion reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic relations, while also tackling pressing issues in Gaza, Sudan, and Syria.

The ministers emphasized the importance of enhancing trade and investment between Egypt and China. They expressed a mutual desire to convene the Egypt-China Joint Governmental Committee, following agreements reached in the Strategic Dialogue in Beijing in December 2024. Abdelatty underscored Egypt’s openness to increased Chinese investments, ensuring mutual economic benefits.

The conversation also addressed the ongoing crisis in Gaza, with Abdelatty detailing Egypt’s leadership in stabilizing the ceasefire and implementing a phased peace plan. He stressed Egypt’s reconstruction strategy, designed to rebuild Gaza while ensuring Palestinians remain on their land. Wang Yi fully supported Egypt’s approach, aligning with the broader Arab stance on post-war recovery.

Turning to Sudan, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s strong position in preserving Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity. He called for an immediate ceasefire and the launch of an inclusive political process that brings all Sudanese factions to the table to restore peace and stability.

Regarding Syria, both ministers agreed on the need for a comprehensive political solution that includes all sectors of Syrian society. They emphasized that Syria should be a stabilizing force in the region, playing a key role in counterterrorism efforts and regional security.
