Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Thursday with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations and review the latest regional and international developments.

During the call, Abdelatty conveyed greetings from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to the Chinese leadership and expressed appreciation for the strong relations and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Both ministers voiced pride in the progress achieved in Egypt–China relations in recent years, highlighting the steady expansion of cooperation across multiple sectors and the exchange of high-level visits between the two sides. They also stressed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in a manner that reflects the depth of the strategic partnership and serves the mutual interests of both nations.

The discussions come as Egypt and China mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

For his part, Wang Yi conveyed greetings from the Chinese leadership to President El-Sisi and praised Egypt’s key role in supporting regional security and stability. He also expressed China’s interest in expanding strategic cooperation with Egypt and building on the positive momentum in bilateral relations.

Abdelatty commended the level of political and economic cooperation between the two countries and highlighted Chinese investments in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. He expressed Egypt’s interest in increasing Chinese investments in the industrial sector, with the aim of supporting local manufacturing, transferring technology, and strengthening industrial supply chains.

The Egyptian foreign minister also praised financial cooperation between the two countries, including the currency swap agreement, and expressed interest in expanding its value. He noted Egypt’s issuance of Chinese yuan-denominated bonds worth $500 million and signaled Cairo’s interest in increasing their value and strengthening cooperation with the China Development Bank to help secure additional foreign currency resources.

The two ministers also addressed ongoing regional tensions, stressing the importance of coordinated regional and international efforts to reduce escalation and prevent further conflict. They warned that continued military escalation poses serious risks to regional and global peace and security.

Both sides emphasized the need to prioritize diplomacy, dialogue, and de-escalation efforts to prevent the situation from expanding into a wider regional confrontation.

Abdelatty also reiterated Egypt’s condemnation of Iran’s targeting of Gulf states, stressing that such actions have no justification and violate international law while threatening regional stability. He called for an immediate halt to these actions and emphasized the importance of respecting state sovereignty and the principle of good neighborliness.
