Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, hosted David Lammy, UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs, in Cairo on Thursday.
Both ministers co-chaired the second session of the Egypt-UK Association Council, with the participation of representatives from Egypt’s Ministries of Investment, International Cooperation, and Economic Development, as well as the UK’s Department for Business and Trade.
Tamim Khalaf, official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the Association Council, which is responsible for overseeing and managing the implementation of the Egypt-UK Association Agreement signed on December 5, 2020, reviewed bilateral relations and explored ways to enhance cooperation in various fields to meet the aspirations of both nations.
Abdelatty emphasized Egypt's commitment to strengthening its partnership with the UK across different sectors. The two ministers also exchanged views on recent political developments in the Middle East, including the situations in Gaza, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, the Red Sea, water security, and African cooperation.
The spokesperson added that the council held extensive discussions on developing economic, trade, and investment relations between Egypt and the UK.
Moreover, Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s priority of increasing trade volumes and direct British investments in the country to achieve mutual benefit.
He also highlighted the promising investment opportunities in Egypt in key sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, financial and banking services, agriculture, logistics, and transportation.
Furthermore, FM reviewed the numerous steps and measures taken by the Egyptian government in recent years to enhance the national economy, improve the business environment, and support the private sector.
