Sheikh Mohamed Abdel Karim Kamel from Al-Sharqiya Governorate, Egypt, secured second place in the BRICS International Quran Recitation Competition.
This prestigious event was organized for the first time during the Fifth International Conference "Spiritual Silk Road: The Importance of Religious Values in Greater Eurasia" in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan, Russia.
The competition saw participation from representatives of 20 countries, including BRICS member states. The judging panel comprised representatives from Russia, Iran, Bangladesh, Yemen, and Egypt, represented by Sheikh Maher Mohamed Abdel Nabi, a member of the Supreme Committee for Quran Services.
Mufti Sheikh Rawi Ainuddin, Head of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Russia, honored the winners in the presence of Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, the Minister of Endowments.
Sheikh Mohamed Abdel Karim, a 31-year-old from the village of Mashtoul in Al-Sharqiya, was born blind. Despite his disability, he excelled academically, ranking among the top in all his educational certificates.
He memorized the Quran by the age of six, with the support of his mother, whom he regards as his guiding light. Sheikh Mohamed graduated from the Faculty of Fundamentals of Religion, Department of Islamic Call, with high honors and holds a master's degree.
He is currently preparing to defend his doctoral thesis and serves as an imam and preacher in the Ministry of Endowments.
