Armed Forces Distribute Face Masks to Citizens for Free

The Egyptian Armed Forces on Sunday distributed face masks for free to citizens for free.

In a statement, the Armed Forces said that it distributed the face masks at squares, subway stations, and public transport stations.

"This move comes upon the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, who directed to take all precautionary measures to combat the spread of the COVID-19," the Armed Forces said.

It also added that it had opened five production lines of face masks to produce 100,000 masks per day according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) standees.

It is worth mentioning that the Egyptian Health Ministry reported on Saturday 145 new coronavirus cases, all of them are Egyptians.

“This upped the total number of confirmed cases to 1,939” Khaled Megahed, the ministry’s spokesman said in a statement.

As many as 11 more deaths were confirmed; raising the total number to 146.

“Up to 426 coronavirus patients have recovered so far,” the spokesman said.

“Five foreigners and 37 Egyptians were among the recovered patients today,” he added.

Also, the number of coronavirus patients who had now been retested for the virus and had received negative results has reached 542, after getting proper treatment in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Today, Health Minister Hala Zayed said only 12% percent of the confirmed cases in Egypt are from the medical staff.

Earlier, Zayed said that 61% of the positive cases are from males and 39% from females.

Zayed mentioned that 30% of deaths had died before arriving at hospitals.

“94% of the deaths were in the age group of over 50,” the minister pointed out, adding: “22% of the confirmed cases are in the age group of 50 to 59.”

“100% of the deceased had chronic diseases and tumors,” the minister affirmed.

Earlier, she said that the number of positive cases globally for each one million people is 105, while the percentage of deaths for each one million citizens is 5.1.

“In Egypt, the number of positive cases for each one million citizens is seven and the percentage of deaths for each one million citizens is 0.4, a matter which refers that the situation in Egypt is stable until now,” Zayed pointed out.

She called on those who returned from abroad, positive cases, and their families to follow up the ministry’s instructions and the state’s precautionary measures.
