A new victory for Egyptian culture on the global level was secured after an Arab group participated in the fourteenth edition of the Intergovernmental Committee for Safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage in UNESCO.
This edition was held in Bogota, Colombia.
The Arabic delegation succeeded in registering the file of "The Palm – in addition to its related knowledge, skills, traditions and practices" in the Representative List of human Heritage.
Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem, Minister of Culture, said that the elements of the Arab identity reflect the uniqueness of Egypt that extends from the ocean to the Gulf.
She indicated that the palm is one of the symbols of the original Arabism related to the land and the human being.
Abdel Dayem issued a decision allowing Dr. Mustafa Gad, Dean of the Higher Institute of Popular Arts, to travel to Bogota, Colombia, as a representative of Egypt to present the palm file that was well prepared in Luxor city during the past year.
It is worthy of note that Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science (ALEXO) held a meeting to discuss the nomination of the Palm file by the Organization’s countries members :- Egypt, Bahrain, Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Sultanate of Oman, Iraq, Yemen, Palestine, Jordan, Sudan, Tunisia, Morocco and Mauritania.
ALEXO organized several meetings in Khartoum, Tunisia and Abu Dhabi to complete the final procedures. Afterwards, the UAE coordinated to present the file, by the Arab countries.
Furthermore, the Governmental Committee for Intangible Cultural Heritage praised the effort exerted by the Arabic delegation that led to the establishment of a partnership between Arab societies depending on active cooperation.
On the same context, the representatives of the Arab countries celebrated the declaration of registering the palm file on the representative list of human heritage; they raised the flags of each country alongside with the flag of ALEXO.
