On Wednesday, Hanafi Gibali, the speaker of Egypt's House of Representatives, met with his Iraqi counterpart Mohamed El-Halboussi, who is currently visiting Cairo heading a high-level parliamentary delegation.

After welcoming the delegation, Gibali said the visit by the Iraqi parliamentary delegation to Cairo comes at a time when bilateral ties between Egypt and Iraq are witnessing great progress on all levels.

Gibali said Egypt stands firmly with the Iraqi state in its war against terrorism and supports its efforts in restoring security and stability.

In parliamentary terms, Hanafi said Egypt's House of Representatives is looking forward to reinforcing cooperation with its Iraqi counterpart in order to give greater momentum to the growing relations between the two countries.

Gibali has also praised the role played by Iraq over the last two months in easing tension in the Arab world and reaching reconciliation between the main powers in the Middle East region.

El-Halboussi said his visit to Cairo reflects Iraq's wish to push its relations with Egypt forward in all fields.

"Egypt is playing a leading role in helping Iraq regain stability and achieve economic progress," said El-Halboussi, adding that "the Iraqi people have high hopes that Egypt will be a key player in helping Iraq overcome difficulties and move forward on the road of development."

Gibali and El-Halboussi said they are happy that the relations between Cairo and Baghdad have seen a boost in 2021, and expressed wishes that these relations will reach new heights in the coming years.
