EgyptAir Receives First Airbus 220-300 (Photos)

EgyptAir has officially received on Sunday the first Airbus 220-300 plane, manufactured at Canda’s Mirable plant in Montreal.

It is considered the first A220 operator based in the Middle East and North African region, and the sixth operator worldwide.

Leaders of Civil Aviation ministry and a number of ambassadors will celebrate the aircraft handover today, Sunday at Cairo international airport hall 4.

The Airbus A220, previously known as Bombardier CSeries (or C Series), is a family of narrow-body, twin-engine, medium-range jet airliners originally designed and built by the Canadian manufacturer Bombardier Aerospace.

Egypt Air had signed a deal with Bombardier Inc. Fred Cromer to buy 12 CSeries jets at a total cost of around $1 billion.

The 12 aircrafts are to be handed over in the period from September to May next year.

Noteworthy, EgyptAir’s new brand A220-300 is configured in a two-class cabin with 140-seats including 15 premium economy and 125 economy class seats, offering every passenger a greater level of comfort and space.

The A220 is the only aircraft purpose-built for the 100-150 seat market; it delivers unbeatable fuel efficiency and widebody passenger comfort in a single-aisle aircraft.

It brings together state-of-the-art aerodynamics, advanced materials and Pratt & Whitney’s latest-generation PW1500G geared turbofan engines to offer at least 20 percent lower fuel burn per seat compared to previous generation aircraft.
