EgyptAir announced a comprehensive investigation to uncover the circumstances of the company's flight from Cairo to New Jersey, offering its sincere apologies for what happened during the flight.
This came in a statement issued by EgyptAir, following a video published on social media and some news websites about suffocation cases among passengers on the EgyptAir flight from Cairo to New Jersey.
EgyptAir explained - in its statement - that during the takeoff of EgyptAir flight number MS987 from Cairo to New Jersey on September 18, one of the passengers felt extremely tired and exhausted while the plane was moving on the ground on its way to take off due to the high temperature inside the cabin as a result of a sudden malfunction in the plane's air conditioning system on the ground.
The flight crew sought the help of a doctor from the passengers traveling on board the plane, who confirmed that his health condition required an ambulance.
Immediately, the flight crew informed the pilot of the passenger's health condition, and to ensure his safety, the flight captain decided to return - again.
The company indicated that an ambulance was called to examine the passenger; to provide him with medical aid and determine whether he could travel or not. After providing first aid to the passenger and asking him whether he wanted to continue the flight or not, the passenger insisted on completing the flight.
After the passengers were calmed down, due to the high temperature inside the plane, and the passenger's health condition and his ability to complete the flight were confirmed, the flight took off - again heading to New Jersey at exactly 7:10 am on the same day.
