EgyptAir issued a formal apology to passengers following significant delays affecting several of its flights over recent days, attributing the disruption to a fuel supply leak at Cairo International Airport.
In an official statement released Saturday morning, the national carrier said the delays were caused by a leak in a subsidiary fuel line supplying Terminals 2 and 3 at Cairo International Airport. The issue was detected through monitoring systems operated by Misr Petroleum at the airport’s central fuel depot control room.
According to the airline, standard safety protocol required the temporary suspension of the affected fuel line, alongside activation of an alternative emergency supply plan. Relevant authorities at Misr Petroleum and Cairo International Airport immediately initiated containment and repair procedures to address the fault and restore normal operations.
EgyptAir stressed that flight operations were not fully suspended, but were “partially and significantly impacted” due to the exceptional circumstances, which it described as beyond the airline’s control.
The carrier reaffirmed that corrective maintenance work has been implemented and preparations are underway to return the subsidiary fuel line to regular service.
EgyptAir concluded its statement by renewing its apology to customers for any inconvenience caused and expressing appreciation for passengers’ understanding during what it characterized as an unforeseen operational disruption.
