Mahmoud Afifi, Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign (FM) Affairs for International Social and Humanitarian Issues won on Saturday the membership of the Permanent Independent Commission for Human Rights of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation( OIC).
This came during the elections that took place on the sidelines of the 47th session of the OSCE Ministerial Council, which is currently being held in Niamey, the capital city of Niger.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Hafez, indicated that the Egyptian candidate’s victory, and at the same time obtaining the highest votes among the candidates for membership of the Commission, comes to confirm once again the great appreciation that the pioneering role Egypt enjoys and its weight within the framework of the work of international and regional organizations in a way.
Hafez noted the growing importance that the work of the OIC Permanent Independent Commission for Human Rights has acquired over recent years in dealing with human rights issues related to the priorities of the Islamic world and the challenges it faces in this regard, and in a way that would support the efforts made to develop the frameworks of the organization in this area.
