Egypt won the 2019 World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) Excellence Award for outstanding project entitled “Lifelong Learning for People with Disabilities”.
The project focused on the capacity building and employment in the field of ICT for persons with disabilities.
It is directly aligned with the Egyptian government's policies to empower persons with disabilities and improve their life conditions for achieving social justice.
The program is implemented within the framework of MCIT's overall strategy for the empowerment of persons with disabilities.
The award was received by Dr. Abeer Shakweer, Advisor to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) for Social Responsibility and Services.
The ceremony was held on the sidelines of the World Conference on Information Technology in Yerevan, Armenia, which was attended by Armenian Prime Minister of Nikol Pashinyan, in addition to 20 Communications ministers and more than 5,000 ICT specialists from 80 countries around the world.
It is worth mentioning that this award is given to distinguished programs and initiatives that aim to help people with disabilities and others who face a number of challenges to social integration. It also provides solutions that provide access to those inpiduals who have not been able to take advantage of traditional ICT tools. The award is given to the best innovative solutions that provide excellent job opportunities through ICT.
The expert committee of World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), comprising 80 nations, nominated Egypt in this particular category.
The Awards program aims at identifying the most outstanding users of information and communications technology.
Held every two years, the WCIT is covered by hundreds of local and international media representatives as well as approximately 2,000 high ranking delegates from around the world. WITSA represents IT industry associations in over 80 countries or economies.
