Official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zaid, welcomed the outcomes of the meeting of Aguila Saleh, speaker of Libya's House of Representatives, and Khaled Al-Mishri, head of Libya's Higher Council of State, on Thursday, to refer the draft constitutional document to the two councils for approval, with the aim of completing the procedures represented in electoral laws and executive procedures and unifying Libyan institutions, as an important step in moving forward towards holding presidential and parliamentary elections in Libya as soon as possible.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman praised the role of the Libyan House of Representatives and the Higher Council of State in carrying out their responsibilities, pointing out that the track of the Libyan Constitutional Committee consisting of the two houses, whose rounds began in Cairo in April 2022 under the auspices of the United Nations, is the main track that embodies the will of the Libyan people, expressing his hope that the two councils would  complete the rest of their tasks in the coming period.

Ambassador Abu Zeid stressed that Egypt will always support the choices of the Libyan people, and the role of Libyan institutions, in a way that leads to achieving security, stability and unity in Libya, and the exit of all foreign forces, mercenaries and foreign fighters from its lands, in addition to preserving its sovereignty and the capabilities of the Libyan people.
