Egypt has welcomed the announcement by Canadian Prime Minister (PM) Mark Carney and Maltese Prime Minister (PM) Robert Abela of their countries’ intention to recognize Palestinian state.
Egypt affirmed that this growing international momentum toward recognition constitutes a historic step that contributes to the realization of a Palestinian state, a goal long advocated by Egypt and the Arab nations, in pursuit of restoring the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, according to a statement issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Moreover, Egypt reiterated its call for all countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to urgently take this step, in order to stand on the right side of history and support the implementation of the two-state solution, thereby ensuring the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
