On Wednesday, Egypt voiced its complete support for the Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU), headed by Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Al-Dabaiba, to fulfill its commitments in accordance with the road map set during the talks of Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) in Geneva.
In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry spokesman, Ahmed Hafez, welcomed the decision by the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) to grant confidence to the GNU, appreciating the parliament’s role in assuming its responsibilities and upholding the supreme interest of Libya to move forward towards Libya's stability, security, and sovereignty.
He added that Egypt is looking forward to working with the Libyan government during the coming transitional phase and support its efforts to fulfill its obligations in accordance with the roadmap for a political solutionو in order to maintain the capabilities of the Libyan people and help the neighboring country get out of its crisis and achieve security and stability in the region.
Earlier today, Libya’s parliament approved an interim government mandated to bring the fractured country together after a decade of chaos and violence and to oversee elections in December as part of an UN-backed peace plan.
The parliament’s approval of Al-Dbaiba’s cabinet by 132 votes at a session in a war-battered front-line city, represents the biggest opportunity in years for a resolution to Libya’s conflict.
