Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with his Vietnamese counterpart, Le Hoai Trung, on the sidelines of his visit to Washington, in talks aimed at further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, Abdelatty praised the noticeable progress in relations between Cairo and Hanoi, highlighting their elevation to a comprehensive partnership. He expressed Egypt’s aspiration to intensify high-level exchanges across various sectors, particularly following the Vietnamese president’s landmark visit to Cairo in August 2025.

The Egyptian minister underscored Cairo’s commitment to advancing cooperation with Vietnam in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks, commending the strong coordination between the two countries’ delegations in international forums. He voiced hope for sustained collaboration in support of shared interests.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of activating existing cooperation mechanisms, expressing Egypt’s readiness to host the sixth session of the Joint Governmental Committee in Cairo, as well as holding the third session of the Joint Subcommittee on Industrial and Trade Cooperation in Vietnam. He also called for a new round of political consultations between the two nations.

Highlighting Egypt’s strategic geographic position, the minister described the Egyptian market as a gateway to Arab, African, and European markets through its extensive network of regional trade agreements. He pointed in particular to development projects within the Suez Canal Economic Zone as offering promising investment opportunities.

Abdelatty emphasized the need to boost Egyptian exports to Vietnam, especially agricultural products, while encouraging greater mutual investment flows. He expressed appreciation for existing Vietnamese investments in Egypt and conveyed Cairo’s interest in attracting additional capital in key sectors, including software development, telecommunications, high-tech manufacturing, semiconductor production, and artificial intelligence.

The Egyptian foreign minister also reaffirmed Cairo’s interest in enhancing institutional ties with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), noting Egypt’s close relations with member states and its status as one of the first Arab and African countries to sign ASEAN’s Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in 2016.

He commended ASEAN’s pivotal regional and international role, signaling Egypt’s intent to expand cooperation frameworks with the bloc as part of its broader strategy to diversify global partnerships.
