On Monday, the Egyptian and US navies conducted a joint military drill in the Red Sea under efforts to bolster the combat capabilities for naval units in facing challenges in the region.

According to a statement by the Egyptian armed forces, the naval drill involved the participation of the Alexandria, and USS Portland frigates.

The exercise included the execution of various naval combat activities, including responding to scenarios for naval security procedures at the site of operations, securing ships laden with strategic shipments, and the execution of various sea formations.

The statement said the exercises affirm the capabilities of the Egyptian navy in working and coordinating with foreign counterparts to secure global maritime traffic and bolster bilateral cooperation between Egypt and the US in supporting the efforts of naval security in the region.

“The drills come under continued joint exercises between the Egyptian navy with friendly countries to bolster the combat capabilities for naval units to allow it to face challenges and contribute in supporting peace and stability in the region,” it said.
