Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, held a high-level phone call on Sunday with Ambassador Tom Barrack, the US Special Envoy for Syria and Iraq.

The discussions focused heavily on the latest geopolitical developments across the Middle East, with a specific focus on stabilizing Syria and Iraq.

During the conversation, Minister Abdelatty emphasized the critical importance of preserving Syria's territorial integrity and unity. He reiterated Egypt’s firm condemnation of the recent terrorist attack targeting the capital, Damascus. Abdelatty stressed the urgent need to empower Syrian national state institutions, strongly rejecting any foreign interference in the country's internal affairs. Furthermore, he highlighted that international efforts must remain unified to combat terrorism and extremism in all its forms.

Turning the focus to Iraq, the diplomatic call addressed the ongoing efforts of the new Iraqi government to assert state authority, regulate weapon possession, and ensure that arms are exclusively managed under official state institutions.

Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering position in supporting Iraq’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial safety. He concluded by assuring that Cairo will continue to back Iraqi state institutions as they navigate various domestic and regional security challenges.
