On Monday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued urgent directives to the embassies of Egypt in Ukraine’s neighboring countries to work around the clock to facilitate the entry of Egyptian citizens who crossed the Ukrainian border towards these countries.
In a statement, the ministry also called for providing them with all forms of the necessary care, including transportation and accommodations in hotels.
Notably, the Egyptian embassies in Warsaw and Bucharest received a group of Egyptian citizens who left the Ukrainian borders towards Poland and Romania.
Earlier today, the Ukrainian authorities have directed the country's border guards to allow Egyptians to leave the country via borders with Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania.
Ukrainian Chargé d’Affaires in Egypt Ruslan Nechai revealed that his embassy in Cairo was also coordinating with Poland and Romania regarding the visa of Egyptians.
There were around 6,000 Egyptians living in Ukraine prior to the invasion, including 3,000 students.
Over the past few days, the Egyptian Embassy in Kyiv has urged citizens in western parts of Ukraine to head to the border crossings with Romania, Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia.
The embassy, however, advised citizens in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv and eastern cities to stay at home or in shelters, adding that negotiations are underway to secure a safe exit for those in the eastern parts.
