The Egyptian government has urged all foreign residents to renew their residency and legalize their status by June 30th.

In a statement, the government has asked those who are exempt from paying residency fees to register their data and obtain a smart residence card. This will ensure continued access to essential services provided by all government sectors.

A decision made by the cabinet last year stated that foreigners requesting the right of residence, whether for tourism or non-tourism purposes, must show proof that they have paid residency fees, late fines, or the costs of issuing a residency card. Payment must be made through certified banks or exchange companies in US dollars or the equivalent in foreign currencies.

Foreigners who are residing in Egypt illegally can legalize their status by registering with the General Administration of Passports, Immigration and Nationality. To do this, they must have an Egyptian host and pay administrative expenses equivalent to US$1,000 at an Egyptian bank.

According to the International Organization for Migration, Egypt is home to approximately nine million migrants from various countries. These migrants have the same rights as native Egyptians, including the right to work, trade, transportation, and ownership.
