Egypt's Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mohamed Abdel Latif, met with officials from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on Tuesday to discuss expanding cooperation in education reform, teacher development and digital learning initiatives.
During the meeting, Abdel Latif outlined progress achieved under Egypt's ongoing education reform program, highlighting efforts to improve the quality of education, increase student attendance rates, reduce classroom overcrowding and address shortages of teachers in key academic subjects.
The minister also welcomed the implementation of additional international studies and assessment programs to evaluate the impact of the reforms and support evidence-based policymaking in the education sector.
Discussions focused on strengthening teachers' digital skills and preparing them for emerging technological developments, particularly in the fields of programming and artificial intelligence.
As part of these efforts, the two sides reviewed plans to launch Egypt's AI Competency Framework for Teachers in cooperation with UNESCO. The initiative aims to equip educators with the knowledge and skills needed to integrate artificial intelligence technologies into teaching and learning processes.
UNESCO officials praised recent developments in Egypt's education sector and the progress achieved through the government's reform agenda. They reaffirmed the organization's commitment to continuing cooperation with Egypt in areas including education reform, teacher training and capacity-building programs.
The meeting reflects ongoing collaboration between Egypt and UNESCO to modernize the education system and enhance the skills of both teachers and students in line with global technological and educational trends.
