Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, held a phone call on Saturday with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to discuss pressing regional developments, notably in Gaza, Sudan, and the Red Sea.

The call came as part of ongoing diplomatic coordination between Egypt and Turkey, focusing primarily on the escalating situation in Gaza. Both ministers discussed efforts to revive the ceasefire agreement and implement its three-phase roadmap. This includes the release of hostages and detainees, as well as the unimpeded entry of humanitarian, medical, and shelter aid into the Gaza Strip.

Despite mounting Israeli aggression in both Gaza and the West Bank, including military actions targeting civilians and blocking aid access, the two ministers emphasized the urgent need for de-escalation and full adherence to humanitarian obligations.

The conversation also addressed the deteriorating situation in Sudan. Minister Abdel Aaty reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for Sudan’s national institutions and efforts to restore peace and stability. He stressed Egypt’s position calling for the respect of Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

Furthermore, the two officials exchanged views on developments in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region. Dr. Abdel Aaty reiterated Egypt’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s anti-terrorism efforts and strengthening the Somali National Army’s capabilities.

He also renewed Egypt’s firm rejection of any non-littoral state's involvement in the security and governance of the Red Sea, underlining the importance of regional ownership in safeguarding maritime stability.
