Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, met with his Tunisian counterpart, Mohamed Ali Nafti, on Saturday, on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah.
During the meeting, Abdelatty emphasized the commitment to joint action to elevate bilateral relations across various fields, rooted in the historic brotherly ties between the two nations.
He praised the outcomes of the 18th session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Joint Higher Committee held in Cairo in September 2025, stressing the importance of maintaining regular sessions to boost economic, trade, and investment cooperation.
Regarding regional developments, the two ministers discussed several issues, notably the situation in Libya.
Abdelatty underscored the importance of concerted efforts to reach a comprehensive, Libyan-led political settlement.
Moreover, he stated that this process should lead to simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, alongside the withdrawal of all foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries from Libyan territory.
Furthermore, he reaffirmed Egypt's support for the unity and territorial integrity of Libya and highlighted the importance of regular meetings under the "Libya Neighboring Countries Mechanism" involving Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria, expressing his anticipation for the mechanism's next meeting.
