The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Expatriates is actively monitoring the hijacking of the cargo vessel MT Eureka, which was seized by pirates off the coast of Somalia with several Egyptian sailors on board.
Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Expatriates, has ordered around-the-clock tracking of the situation to ensure the safety of the crew and expedite their release.
Diplomatic Efforts in Somalia and Yemen
The Egyptian Embassy in Mogadishu is maintaining continuous contact with Somali authorities and high-level officials. Egyptian diplomats are pushing to ensure decent living conditions for the detained sailors while working toward a swift resolution. The embassy has also established a communication channel allowing the crew members to contact their families back home.
Simultaneously, the Egyptian Embassy in Riyadh—which handles official diplomatic relations with the Yemeni government—has been instructed to coordinate with Yemeni authorities and the ship's owner. These joint efforts aim to secure the immediate release of the sailors and guarantee their well-being during captivity.
Support for Families
At home, Minister Abdelatty directed the ministry's consular department to hold regular meetings with the families of the hijacked sailors. These briefings are designed to keep the families fully informed of the government's ongoing diplomatic and security measures to bring their relatives home safely.
