Egypt is set to receive 400,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from the German government on Friday, Khaled Galal, Egyptian Ambassador to Berlin announced.
On Wednesday, Galal held a meeting with Ambassador Günter Sautter, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations, where he thanked the German government for donating 400,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Egypt.
Galal also affirmed that this move stresses the strength of the bilateral relations between Egypt and Germany and the increased cooperation between the two countries.
Moreover, he highlighted the close historical relations between the two countries and common interests at the bilateral levels, both economically and politically.
Finally, the Egyptian ambassador pointed out that Egypt had received nearly 4 million doses of vaccines from Germany so far.
On January 21, Egypt received 667,100 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine at Cairo International Airport from Belgium and Germany.
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, announced that the shipment was provided through the “COfax” mechanism in cooperation with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI).
