Egypt to Receive 4.5 Doses of AstraZeneca Vaccine before End of May

Hala Zayed, Minister of Health, announced that Egypt is awaiting the arrival of 4.5 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine under the COVAX initiative of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance before the end of May.

This came in the statements of the Minister of Health in a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Thursday.

This comes as part of Egypt's agreement with COVAX to supply 5 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine after Egypt received 854 thousand doses on April 1. Egypt contracted 40 million doses of the COVAX initiative to be supplied in several batches over the course of the current year.

Egypt has contracted 20 million doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine and expects to receive a batch of up to 500,000 doses soon, according to Zayed's statements. She did not specify a specific date for the arrival.

Egypt has so far received 680 thousand doses of the Sinopharm vaccine, whose effectiveness against the virus reaches 79%.
