Egypt is set to receive 3.1 million doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at Cairo International Airport today, the Ministry of Health and Population announced on Saturday.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the spokesperson for the ministry, said new shipments of Pfizer vaccines will continue over the course of this and next week.

Moreover, Abdel Ghaffar noted that the Pfizer vaccine consists of two doses separated by 21 days, and it is given to children from 11 years old.

He also asserted that the shipment will be subjected to examination by the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) upon its arrival. After ensuring its safety, it will be distributed to centers for receiving the vaccines at the level of the governorates of the Republic

On Friday, Egypt received 800,000 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine provided by the Portuguese government.

Egypt’s Ambassador to Portugal Wael El Naggar said Portugal had provided to Egypt so far nearly one million and 200 thousand doses of vaccine.

Portugal had sent 360,000 doses in mid-December as part of the global access system for covid vaccines COVAX.

This comes within the framework of the European Union’s civil protection mechanism, in light of national efforts to cooperate with all countries in order to provide the necessary vaccines to fight the Coronavirus pandemic.
