The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum announced the detection of some non-compliant gasoline samples at gas stations. This follows repeated complaints about the quality of the gasoline, which led to fuel pump failures in a number of cars.

The Ministry decided to disburse an amount equal to the value of the approved invoice to replace the fuel pump, with a maximum of EGP 2,000, to those who filed complaints between May 4 and 10.

The Ministry indicated that it received 870 complaints and analyzed more than 800 samples, revealing that five samples did not meet specifications. It noted that it has decided not to pump any product into refineries for consumption unless samples are analyzed in two different laboratories and the results are verified, instead of using a single laboratory.

It also decided to collect samples of imported gasoline under the supervision of neutral companies and analyze them in three different laboratories to ensure the accuracy of the results, instead of using a single laboratory.
