The state-owned flag carrier “EgyptAir” has decided to resume limited flights to the Kingdom for Saudi Arabia (KSA) to bring Egyptians back home.
The decision came into force from March 9 till March 24.
Two flights will be operated every day from Jeddah to Cairo and other flights will be operated from Al Madinah Al Munawarah, Riyadh, Dammam, Qassim, and Abha to Cairo, according to an official statement issued by a cabinet on Monday.
In turn, the Saudi embassy in Cairo also permitted flights from Egypt to KSA on 10 and 11 March to bring Saudis back home.
It is worth mentioning that, flights between the two countries were suspended on 9 March amid the rapid spread of Covid-19 Coronavirus.
Earlier, Egypt evacuated Egyptian citizens residing in Wuhan, the coronavirus epicenter in China.
This step comes in the implementation of Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to take all necessary measures to ease the return of Egyptians from Wuhan.
The Egyptian Health Ministry announced on Sunday it reported the first coronavirus death for a German national. He was 60.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global emergency due to the rapid outbreak of the virus. Many global airlines, including EgyptAir, announced the suspension of all flights to and from China.
