Egypt’s economic and social development plan for fiscal year 2025/2026, recently approved by both chambers of parliament, projects a major leap in Port Said’s global standing as a hub for container shipping.

The plan sets an ambitious target of advancing the port’s ranking to fifth place worldwide in the Container Port Performance Index by 2030, up from its 10th-place position in 2022.

The anticipated progress stems from a comprehensive package of development projects currently underway. These include deepening navigation channels, expanding and extending berths, and equipping the port with state-of-the-art technology to boost container handling efficiency and cut loading and unloading times.

Meanwhile, the government is working to strengthen logistical connections between the port and Egypt’s road networks, railways, and dry ports. The aim is to create an integrated transport system that enhances Egypt’s competitiveness on the global trade map.

Officials say the expected milestone will further cement Port Said’s role as a pivotal port on the Mediterranean, underscoring the success of Egypt’s national strategy to establish itself as a regional hub for container trade and maritime services.
