Egypt’s tourism sector is on track to generate $17 billion in revenues by the end of 2025, buoyed by rising visitor numbers, longer stays, and higher spending, according to Dr. Hossam Hazzaa, a member of the Egyptian Tourism Chambers Federation.

Speaking to Extra News, Hazzaa said global demand for Egypt as a travel destination has been growing steadily, particularly for cultural and archaeological tourism. He highlighted the country’s unique historical assets such as the Pyramids of Giza and the Valley of the Kings, which continue to draw significant international attention.

Hazzaa noted that the upcoming inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum has already boosted global interest, with partial visits currently underway. Cairo’s wide array of museums — including the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, the Coptic Museum, and the Museum of Islamic Art — has also contributed to an increase in the average length of stay for visitors.

Beyond cultural attractions, beach tourism remains a major driver, Hazzaa added, with strong demand for destinations along the Red Sea such as Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada, as well as the North Coast. Egypt has also become one of the leading global hubs for diving, an activity not widely available across European countries.

The tourism official attributed much of the sector’s progress to infrastructure upgrades in recent years, including expanded road networks, railway modernization, and airport development, alongside enhanced political and security stability that has strengthened confidence among foreign markets.

According to Hazzaa, Egypt recorded $8 billion in tourism revenues during the first half of 2025, placing the sector on course to nearly double that figure by the year’s end.
