Egypt condemned, in the strongest terms, Israel's—the occupying power—persistence in its illegal settlement policies, most recently the approval to legalize and establish 19 new settlements in the occupied West Bank.
In a statment, Foreign Ministry stressed that this move constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions, foremost among them the UN Security Council resolutions that affirm the illegality of settlements in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.
Moreover, Egypt renewed its total rejection of all forms of settlement expansion, considering it a major obstacle to achieving the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
It also called upon the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities and to take effective measures to halt these violations and protect the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. Such actions are essential to revive the political process and achieve a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East.
