On Sunday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs declined to reply to a statement released by the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressing objection to statements made by a TV host, who likened the relations between Russia and Ukraine to those of Egypt and Libya.

TV host Amr Adib said Saturday that "Ukraine to Russia is like Libya to Egypt," which was perceived by some Libyans as a call to invade Libya to repel any potential threats that may arise from there.

The ministry's spokesperson, Ahmed Hafez, pointed out that local and foreign media operate freely in Egypt, and that they solely express their own viewpoints about various issues. He added that the official status of the Egyptian state is exclusively expressed through statements released by the Egyptian government.

The spokesperson highlighted that Egypt's ties with Libya over the past years have been characterized by keenness on the preservation of Libya's sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as the fulfillment of the willpower of its people without any foreign intervention. That is given the fraternity and historic relation between both peoples.

Ambassador Hafez added that it would be better for all parties to concentrate their efforts on treasuring and consolidating such values, through official channels and communications connecting Egypt with all Libyan political groups.
