Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, held a bilateral meeting with Mandiay Samaya Koumba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of South Sudan, on the sidelines of the African Union Peace and Security Council meetings.
The two ministers discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and followed up on the ongoing coordination between their nations, building on the South Sudanese Foreign Minister's recent visit to Cairo in December 2025.
They also exchanged views on supporting stability in South Sudan and promoting regional cooperation across East Africa and the Horn of Africa.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's unwavering support for security and stability in South Sudan and emphasized Cairo’s commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation in vital sectors such as capacity building, technical training, and infrastructure development.
Moreover, he noted that these efforts reflect the deep historical bonds between the two nations and serve the shared interests of their people.
Regarding the Nile River, FM stressed the necessity of fostering mutual benefit among basin countries in accordance with international law, particularly the principles of prior notification and consultation while rejecting unilateral actions.
He also confirmed Egypt's support for the Nile Basin Initiative's consultative process to restore inclusivity and expressed a keen interest in maintaining coordination with South Sudan to ensure the river's sustainability and its role as a source of shared development for all basin states.
